INEOS GRENADIER CLEARED FOR UK BLUE LIGHT SERVICE
When you think of police vehicles, your mind probably jumps to the usual SUVs and estates. But that could soon be changing, with the INEOS Grenadier officially gaining approval for frontline use with the Metropolitan Police.
After successfully completing the Met Police's notoriously demanding vehicle assessment programme, both the commercial (N1) and passenger (M1) versions of the Grenadier have been cleared for blue light duties. While the certification is for the UK's largest police force, it also serves as a benchmark for other emergency services and police constabularies across the country.
The biggest hurdle? The infamous Metropolitan Police brake test.
To pass, the Grenadier had to accelerate to 50mph before carrying out a full emergency stop... then repeat the process another 49 times. Fifty heavy braking manoeuvres in total, with no dangerous brake fade or system failure allowed. It's a brutal test designed to replicate the relentless stop-start demands of response driving, and one that not every vehicle can comfortably handle.
The approval adds to an already impressive emergency services CV for the rugged 4x4. INEOS Automotive already supplies specialist vehicles to police and security services across Europe and the Middle East, including Germany, France, Spain, Poland and Abu Dhabi. Closer to home, the Grenadier also entered service with the RNLI earlier this year, helping crews reach some of the UK's most challenging coastal locations.
One of the Grenadier's biggest strengths is that it needs very little modification before getting to work. Factory-fitted pre-wired electrical circuits allow emergency lighting, radios and other equipment to be installed without drilling through the body or chassis, helping preserve the vehicle's integrity while simplifying conversions.
For commercial operators, practicality is another major selling point. The Grenadier Commercial offers a generous 2,088 litres of load space and is capable of swallowing a standard Euro pallet, making it suitable for carrying everything from rescue equipment to specialist policing gear.
Where additional conversions are required, INEOS works with approved coachbuilders, with many vehicles retaining their original structure. Better still, the factory five-year warranty remains in place on the original components.

Since production began in 2023, more than 36,000 Grenadiers have found homes in over 50 countries, tackling everything from remote expeditions and farm work to daily commuting.
