Ring Hands Free Inspection Light

When burying yourself under the bonnet or working on the underside of your car, usually a head torch is the tool of choice for seeing what you are fiddling with, but Ring has got another option that is actually a bit more flexible.

This wearable neck light has quite a few more options to help you work. Quite a lot of time when wearing a head light the constant pressure from the elastic can make it uncomfortable to wear it for a long time, but with this the neck part is curved and shaped to fit comfortably and snugly without a clamping feeling.

It has 2 torches at each end, which are attached using strong magnets to multi-angle swivelling ends up to 120°. The swivels work independently so you can point them at different sections if working on a large area. The magnets allow the torches to stay firmly in place, whilst also allowing you to remove one or both from the socket, so if you want you can mount them on a metal surface, or hold them at a better angle.

There are 2 light settings you can choose by pressing the blue buttons. Press once and the output is a very bright 265 Lumens, press again and you’ll get the lower setting of 130 Lumens. You get 3 hours of light on the brightest setting and 4.5 hours using the low setting.

They are rechargeable, and it comes with a double ended USB Micro B cable to charge both torches at the same time, which takes only 1.5 hours from fully dead to fully charged.

Here at Muddy Towers nothing much has gone wrong with our motors, so I (Muddy Madam) decided to use them for more unusual purposes to give them a thorough test…

First up was night time dog walking.

When it’s dark, and you have hold of a lead and the poo bags are needed, carrying a torch can be a tricky juggling act. Trying to do the scoop without dropping the torch into the steaming pile can be a challenge, but with this around the neck you have one hand spare for the manoeuvre and you can still see everything clearly.

Then the long-time test was…..doing jigsaws!

We have a lounge that doesn’t have overhead lighting, so trying to do a jiggy once the sun has gone down is tricky. Yes I have a small lamp I can use, but there is always a need for some more from a different angle, and this is where the neck lights came in really handy. I could position one on low light to point straight on to the close pieces and the other on high to point across the whole board. It made doing jigsaws immensely pleasurable, and I can say they are not wrong about the operating and charging times.

To me, this neck light is great, and although there is still a place for a good head torch in your tool kit, I would recommend getting one of these too, as the versatility was a revelation that I didn’t realise I needed.
