Primus Essential Stove Set 1.3ltr

Originating in the 1890’s, PRIMUS is well known for its award-winning, fuel-efficient stoves and have recently released a new one - the Essential.

Primus say that their new Essential Stove sets are simple and easy to use, and at an affordable price they’re perfect for beginners.  Well, let’s see.

Inside the box you’ll find the base, burner and windshield that are all one unit and sits quite low which in turns helps stability, especially on unlevel ground.  There’s two 1.3ltr aluminium pots, or 2.3ltr depending on which size you go for, a frying pan that has a non-stick coating that also doubles as a lid.  There’s a handle and ground protector - which is a sheet of foldable aluminium to protect the grass you’re cooking on.  You’ll also find the owners manual and a sturdy storage bag which can also fit a Primus gas canister as you see below.

After a couple of weeks of hard use, I’d say Primus are spot on, the Essential stove couldn’t be easier to use and its clean design offers maximum capacity in a very convenient format as everything fits within the pans with no fuss or clutter - very neat.

To use, simply remove the base unit from the pans, connect the gas canister - you can pick one up for around a fiver, and light up the stove - it’s as simple as that.  Although I hadn’t considered it, Primus say that the burner is very quiet compared with other gas stoves, again they’re right, it hardly makes a sound.

Packing up camp is just as easy, simply unscrew the gas canister, tuck the flexible pipe and handle into the base unit and place it into the pans with the frying pan/ lid on top.  Once you’ve put it into the bag you’re left with a compact, and rattle-free unit.

The benefits of the Essential stove, for Muddy Madam and I at least, is the ease and compactness of it.  Granted, we don’t hike so we don’t really need a stove this small, but it’s easier than throwing a Weber BBQ and coals into the back of a press car!

Primus seem to be marketing the Essential kit to beginners and those who want a micro adventure near the city, I think they’re selling themselves short here as the Essential is a great piece of kit for everyone.

Soon at Muddy Towers we'll be creating some camping meal videos and there's no doubt that the Primus Essential will have a staring role.  As they say, watch this space...
