INEOS Unveils UK-Built Military 4x4 for MoD

INEOS Automotive has joined forces with SMT Defence and NMS UK to launch Team Grenadier — a UK-based industrial partnership focused on delivering a new generation of Light Mobility Vehicles (LMVs) for the Ministry of Defence.

Built around the rugged INEOS Grenadier platform, the collaboration brings together proven off-road engineering with specialist military vehicle design and systems integration. The result is a highly adaptable, mission-ready solution designed to meet the MoD’s evolving operational requirements while strengthening domestic capability.

At the heart of the programme sits the Grenadier itself — a purpose-built 4x4 engineered for durability, reliability, and serious off-road performance. With its ladder-frame chassis, permanent four-wheel drive, beam axles, and impressive payload capacity, it provides a solid foundation for a wide range of military applications across challenging environments.

SMT Defence contributes deep expertise in developing bespoke vehicles for specialist and elite military units, with a focus on modular design, survivability, and rapid deployment capability. This allows the platform to be tailored quickly for different operational roles without compromising performance.

NMS UK reinforces the partnership with established UK-based manufacturing, integration, and long-term support. Known globally for its work in armoured and protected vehicle systems, NMS ensures the programme can scale effectively while maintaining quality, resilience, and in-service reliability.

A key strength of Team Grenadier lies in its British-led approach — with onshore assembly and a localised supply chain offering enhanced operational independence, regulatory alignment, and long-term sustainability for UK defence.

The Grenadier Multi-Role Light Vehicle (MRLV) forms part of a broader family of modular LMV variants, all built on the same tough underpinnings. Already proven in demanding real-world use by emergency services worldwide, the platform delivers exceptional cross-country capability, durability, and ease of maintenance — making it a strong contender for long-term military deployment.
