INEOS Grenadier Helmsman: A Special Edition With a Nautical Twist

INEOS Automotive is adding a splash of blue to the Grenadier line-up with the new Helmsman special edition, available on both Station Wagon and Quartermaster models for the 2027 model year.

Inspired by life on the water, the Helmsman combines some familiar features from previous limited-run Grenadiers with new colour options and extra equipment. It’s also the first in a planned series of special editions inspired by the elements the Grenadier was designed to tackle.

Available to order now, prices start at £70,995, although this particular edition won’t be around indefinitely. Production will be limited ahead of the arrival of the next elements-inspired model.

A darker look, with a splash of blue

The Helmsman gets a Dark Exterior Pack, bringing a black grille, dark skidplates and new matt black roof rails. Exclusive badging helps distinguish it from the standard model, while 17” diamond-cut alloy wheels and privacy glass complete the look.

There’s a choice of three exterior colours. Eldoret Blue and Scottish White are the standard options, while Whiteout Blue metallic – previously reserved for Arcane Works models – is available as an extra. Buyers can also specify a contrast roof in either Inky Black or Scottish White.

Inside, black leather seats gain oyster-coloured inserts, giving the cabin a different look without straying too far from the Grenadier’s purposeful approach.

More kit for the money

INEOS has also added a collection of equipment aimed at making the Helmsman a more comfortable place to spend time, whether that’s on the daily commute or heading off for a weekend by the coast.

The specification includes heated leather seats, ambient lighting, front parking sensors and auxiliary electrical points. Carpet floor mats are supplied over the heavy-duty wash-down rubber flooring, so owners still have the practical surface underneath when muddy boots and wet kit make an appearance.

Locking wheel nuts are included, along with either a rear access ladder or a load-bay tub, depending on the model.

The Quartermaster’s load area should make it a natural fit for carrying watersports equipment, while the Station Wagon offers the enclosed space that many buyers will prefer for everyday use and touring.

Built for life beyond the tarmac

INEOS says the Helmsman is aimed at watersports enthusiasts and seafarers, highlighting jobs such as recovering boats and transporting kayaks to the coast. Of course, the Grenadier’s appeal has never been limited to the waterfront, and the additional equipment and distinctive styling should also appeal to buyers who simply want something a little different from the regular line-up.

According to Sagree Sardien, Global Sales Director at INEOS Automotive, the company has combined popular features from previous limited editions with new ocean-inspired colours to create a model that reflects the Grenadier’s adventurous character.

The Helmsman is the first of several planned special editions based around the elements, so it sounds as though INEOS has more variations in store.

With prices starting at £70,995 and orders open now, the Helmsman offers another way into Grenadier ownership – provided you like the blue-and-black treatment. Just bear in mind that the production window is limited, with the next special edition due to follow.

The Mud Life verdict: The Helmsman adds some welcome colour and extra equipment to an already distinctive 4x4. Whether the nautical theme floats your boat is a matter of taste, but the choice of Station Wagon or Quartermaster means buyers can match the special edition to the way they plan to use it.
