Toyota announces the all-new Land Cruiser Commercial
Toyota’s New Land Cruiser Commercial: A Proper Workhorse in a Suit
Toyota has lifted the curtain on its latest beast of burden, the all-new Land Cruiser Commercial, and it’s looking like the smartest, most capable pack mule ever to wear a tie. Sitting proudly at the top of the Toyota Professional range, it’s been built for those who fancy proper off-road performance without all the faff of back seats and overly chatty passengers.
This isn’t some cobbled-together aftermarket lash-up either. It’s a proper factory conversion of the swanky new Land Cruiser that got everyone hot under the collar last year. Only this time, instead of carrying grumbling teenagers or the in-laws, it carries tools, gear, dogs, or whatever else you need chucking in the back, all while looking ready for a NATO deployment.
Built right here in good old Derbyshire, at Toyota’s Burnaston plant, the Commercial gets a few thoughtful tweaks to make it ready for work. Out go the back seats, in come steel panels to blank out the rear windows, a full-height metal bulkhead with mesh (so your kit doesn’t clock you on the head), and a heavy-duty floor tray tough enough to survive a mucky Labrador, oily chainsaws, or both.
There’s up to 2,000 litres of cargo space and if that’s not enough, it’ll happily tow up to 3.5 tonnes. That’s your trailer, digger, and your mate Dave’s caravan, no bother.
It’s a one-size-fits-all job, a long-wheelbase, five-door model, and it’s loaded with goodies. This is no stripped-out van with a heater and a radio if you’re lucky. You get 18” alloys, power-adjustable and heated front seats, a heated steering wheel (because frostbite's never fashionable), auto-dimming mirror, electric parking brake, and even a power tailgate with a separately opening window, just in case you want to poke something out the back without opening the whole thing.
The posh continues inside with a 9” touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a raft of Toyota Safety Sense features, think Blind Spot Monitor, parking sensors front and back, Safe Exit Assist (for clumsy passengers), and more acronyms than your average MOT fail sheet.
Under the bonnet is the proven 2.8-litre diesel mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, with permanent four-wheel drive and clever off-road gizmos like Crawl Control, Hill-start Assist, and Downhill Assist to make you look like a hero even if you’re not entirely sure what you’re doing.
Later down the line, Toyota’s planning to give it the Hybrid 48V mild-hybrid treatment, which promises smoother performance without losing any of the get-up-and-go, ideal for those who want a bit of green brownie points without going full EV.
The whole package will be yours for a commercial vehicle on-the-road price of £52,729.17, with orders open from 1st August and deliveries arriving in September.
So, if you’re after a vehicle that can tackle a moorland track, look sharp in a client’s car park, and swallow a generator, a toolbox, and three soggy coats with ease, the new Land Cruiser Commercial might just be your next best mate.
