PackTowl Changing Poncho
Last weekend I headed off to Fantasy Forest Festival, and did a spot of camping, though this was quite civilised for field camping in that they had hot shower units. Showers mean towels. Long hair means another towel. A bigger than average body means a big towel. So with all that you end up with a big stack of towels. Well this time I didn’t, thanks to having a PackTowl Changing Poncho with me.
I headed to the showers wearing just my PackTowl and flip flops and nothing else, as it’s nice and long and covers all the indecent bits. It has a nice big kangaroo-style front pocket perfect for carrying shampoo and more, and also has a double thickness hood which helps dry your hair and provides a bit of warmth, particularly handy when the weather is not playing nice.
After my shower I just popped it over my head and dried myself down. I really wasn’t convinced that it would dry as good as a traditional cotton towel, but I was pleasantly surprised. I was dry in no time, and when I headed outside and back to the tent, because it absorbs so well, it didn’t actually feel damp or cold. The oversized design meant there was no worrying about awkwardly flashing my fellow campers.
Any good for the beach or cold water swimming?
If you’re outdoors and have ever tried to change out of wet clothes behind a towel, you’ll know it’s no easy feat. With this you’ll have no more body part revealing towel manoeuvres on a crowded beach or by the lakeside. Just slip it over your head, pull your arms inside, and whip off your cossie - it’s like having your own portable changing room, minus the queue.
Its roomy fit gives you plenty of space. I’m a 6 foot tall woman who is ‘generously’ proportioned, and in the L/XL that I tested I could easily get dressed and undressed.
It’s also quick-drying - 70% faster than a traditional cotton towel, so that’s a definite win. It can absorb 3 times it’s weight in water, and . The material feels soft against your skin, and it also has Microban® antimicrobial odour control to ensure freshness for multiple uses between washes - great if you are out in the wilds for a few days..
At only a few hundred grams, you’ll barely notice it in your bag, and it folds or rolls into a nice compact size, so whether you’re car camping or on an off-grid adventure, it won’t take up much precious space.
Any Drawbacks?
Honestly, no. I tried to find something wrong with it, but it just does what it is meant to do - it lets you change and get dry in comfort.
Our Verdict
The PackTowl Changing Poncho is a game changer for anyone who spends time outdoors and wants an easy, hassle-free way to get dry or change clothes. It’s lightweight, portable, and as a quick-drying, compact solution, it’s hard to beat. Whether it’s wild swimming, camping, or hitting the beach, this poncho is well worth getting.
